About the Film

His name is Eku is short drama about male trauma. In the film, we see how the main character, EKU is unable to overcome his childhood trauma when his girlfriend, KIA initiates a romantic gesture. Throughout the film, we see how guilt, shame and fear play a huge role in enabling Eku to hide and pretend to be okay, even when confronted.
In our community, Traditional gender roles often portray men as strong and dominant. Cultural beliefs in many African societies might not recognize men as possible victims of sexual violence.
This film will serve as great informative piece for our community. It will help us change perspective, possibly encourage us to support male friends and family members who are victims of trauma.
